DOTY 4 mm H/X/Y MAS probe used for separated local-field experiments on membrane systems at natural isotopic abundance.

Solid state separated local-field DROSS experiments show differences in 13C chemical shifts and 13C-1H residual dipolar couplings, used to determine segmental order parameters. For POPC/EYSM/Chol (1:1:1) membranes, these structural results provide valuable insight into determinants of raft-like phase behavior and membrane lipid structure.

Figure 1. (a) 2D DROSS spectra; (b) Solid-state 13C chemical shifts and residual dipolar coupling lineshapes from the DROSS experiment. This ternary membrane system was at natural isotopic abundance, liquid crystalline phase, and a sample temperature of 48oC. Data was collected with a Doty 4 mm H/X/Y XC4 MAS probe used in a 500 MHz narrow bore NMR magnet.
